Lambert to Host Townhall in Claymont

September 26, 2023

State Representative and others invite public to discuss public safety concerns this Wednesday

DOVER – State Representative Larry Lambert will host a Public Safety Townhall Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 6-8 p.m. at the Claymont Fire Hall, 3223 Philadelphia Pike, in Claymont to address public concerns about crime in the community.

“We want greater Claymont residents to feel safe,” said Rep. Lambert, D-Claymont. “And this week’s meeting will be a great opportunity to meet with local, county and state officials to gain better insights into what is being done to keep our community safe. It’s essential that residents and businesses understand that as public officials, our first and highest duty is ensuring that our neighborhoods are safe, and concerns about public safety are taken seriously.”

According to Lambert, the townhall will include Claymont Councilman John Cartier, Senator Kyle Evans Gay, the New Castle Police Department, the Claymont Fire Company, Delaware State Police, and the Delaware Department of Transportation. He explained that Wednesday night’s meeting has been organized in response to public concern over a perceived rise in crime.

“Whether it’s a parent worried about their kids playing out in the neighborhood or a senior citizen living alone, every single member of our community deserves to feel safe in their home and in their neighborhood,” Sen. Kyle Evans Gay said. “Our neighbors will have an opportunity to voice their concerns to us as their local legislators, while also hearing from the first responders who serve Claymont and the surrounding area.”

“Rather than sit back as negative news stories continue to fuel fear, raise questions and make our residents and business owners feel uncertain, we’re hoping that this week’s meeting will offer answers and bring about additional collaboration between the public and those whose obligation it is to maintain public safety,” Rep. Lambert added. “I do hope folks come out and join us for this important townhall at the Claymont Fire Hall.”
